About the Temple

One of the unique highlights of the Siruvapuri Balamurugan Temple is the Maragatha Mayil, the peacock vehicle of Lord Murugan, sculpted from green stone. The temple has strong connections to the Ramayana period. As per legend, Lava and Kusha, the sons of Lord Rama, lived here and unknowingly fought a battle with their father. Since children waged war in this region, it was originally called Siruvar Por Puri. Over time, it evolved into Siruvar Ambu Edu, and is now known as Chinnambedu.

It is believed that Lord Murugan blessed Lava and Kusha at this sacred site during their penance. Devotees visit this temple seeking blessings for marital harmony, success, prosperity, and family well-being.

Architecture & Deities

The temple is a fine example of Tamil Dravidian architecture, featuring a tall Rajagopuram adorned with detailed mythological sculptures. The sanctum houses Lord Murugan in Bala (child) form, seated majestically with his Vel, symbolizing divine strength and protection.
